MUSIC EVENT BROCKWELL PARK 10-12TH JUNE

The Brockwell Park MAC sent a representative to a meeting with the event organisers and Lambeth Parks.
We were shown the proposed site area to be enclosed . It is much smaller and less intrusive than previously and appears to be a sensitive proposal.
Other issues covered included noise monitoring, adequate toileting clean up, vehicle entry points ( Lido only) , tree protection, crowd control arrangements esp at points of exit on closure, policing especially after event outside park.
And lastly establishment of event review on a daily basis to allow for adjustment to operating procedures for the following days.
we had been advised that the Borough's Evironmental Quality Officer ( previously Grime Busters had reported flyposting for the event both in Lambeth and Wandsworth.
This was raised however officers were satisfied that it was not an issue and that reported sightings had been on paid advertising sites.
The event is called Park Live and details can be found on www.park-live.co.uk

CARLTON PARADE -- parking at last??

A consultation is to start shortly regarding the installation of 20 minute bays for this parade of shops. The bays are desperately needed if we are to retain these shops. Herne Hill Forum has constantly pushed this issue and now there's a good chance that the bays will go ahead.
We ask all residents in nearby streets to support the shops at this time, as at present customers simply continue to Herne Hill, Dulwich and West Norwood where they can park short-term.

LONDON'S OLDEST TREES

Clive James, chair of BTVC came to Brockwell Park where one of the oaks is reckoned to be one of London's great trees. The tree has been estimated at 600 years old andforms partof an old field boundary.
Derek Austen, tree expert has an alternative view that it could be the fusion of two trees.
although he said that was a matter of conjecture.

BROCKWELL PARK RAILINGS DAMAGE

Before 6am last Friday larry ran into the railings in the Norwood Road and badly damaged
3 sections of railing including the stonework. The Council have put an estimate of £10,000
on repairing this and is hoped to recover this from insurance.

KIM HUMPHREYS RESIGNS

Kim has stepped down as leader of the Tory group on Southwark Council. Although Kim says this is to help him fight the elections next year Clr Williams Rowe who has taken over as leader of the group will have to fight for his seat along with all Southwark Councillors. Clr rowe assumes th unofficial position of deputy leader of the Council although it is possible that this unofficial pact has been effected by the Lib Dem candidate knocking Kim into third place in the general election.

VELODROME PUBLIC MEETING

Over 200 people turned out this evening for this meeting to discuss a way forward over the lockout at the Velodrome by the Dulwich Estates. Various speakers included Val Shawcross
who promised continued support from the Mayor Ken Livinsgtone, the London Development Agency promise of £1m if a scheme is approved.
The meeting was led by Philip Colivin whose efforts resulted in the reversal of a proposal to building avast cinema complex on the Crystal Palace site.
Sport England and the British Cycling Federation also pledged support and determination to see a continued regional facility for cycling at the Herne Hill Veldrome.
Southwark's former Mayor and international athlete in his own right also confirmed that Southwark would provide funding in the short term to ensure access to the site.
Dulwich Estates did not provide any representation.
They are presently trying to conclude a deal with a professional Leisure Management company to develop a business plan for the site.
Developers were seen earlier this week taking photographs in Village way- possibly looking for another main access to the site as one of th key objections to development is the increased traffic flow that would occur in Burbage Road.
The main outcome was that Philip was delegated to continue a dialogue with DE.
Val Shawcross indicated that the GLA and Southwark could adopt a robust approach
to ensure that a good g outcome for cycling was achieved.
Support was forthcoming from Tessa Jowell who has arranged a meeting with the represntatives of the campaign and Dick Caborn Minister for Sport.
