LAMBETH COUNCIL CHANGES
Cabinet CHANGES LAMBETH
( or how officers retain the upper hand )
Leader of the Council - Cllr Steve Reed
Councillor Steve Reed is the Leader of the Council. He oversees the work and direction of the council, making sure that local people get the services they require.
Responsibilities include: chairing the Cabinet; overall political responsibility for Lambeth Council, communications, partnerships and external relations including Lambeth First - our Local Strategic Partnership.
Deputy Leader of the Council - Cllr Jackie Meldrum
Councillor Jackie Meldrum is the Deputy Leader of the Council and a board member of the ALMO which manages housing for Lambeth.
Responsibilities include: Deputy Chair of the Cabinet, performance management, service transformation, human resources and emergency planning.
Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources - Cllr Jim Dickson
Councillor Dickson is responsible for the council's budget, business rates, council tax and benefits, procurement, assets and property management, audit and anti-fraud work, pension fund investment, insurance, legal services, capital programme, customer centres, facilities management, staff accommodation, Electoral Services and Information Technology.
Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration - Cllr Lib Peck
Councillor Lib Peck is responsible for strategic housing, commissioning services from the ALMO (which manages Lambeth's housing), town planning, regeneration and sustainable builds.
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People - Cllr Paul McGlone
Councillor Paul McGlone is responsible for Schools, Early Years Service (including children's centres, childcare, nursery schools and nursery classes), Building Schools for the Future (the programme that will renovate every school in the borough), youth services, child social care and family support.
Cabinet Member for Employment and Enterprise - Cllr John Kazantzis
Councillor Kazantzis is responsible for the Sustainable Community Strategy the long-term, overarching plan for the borough - for tackling worklessness, local area agreements, promoting social enterprise, jobs, skills training, business growth, anti-poverty strategies and adult learning.
Cabinet Member for Environment - Cllr Sally Prentice
Councillor Prentice is responsible for street care, recycling and refuse collection, licensing, transport and highways, a firm but fair parking team, waste management and environmental sustainability.
Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport - Cllr Mark Bennett
Councillor Bennett is responsible for leisure and sporting facilities, libraries, cultural services, parks, opportunities as a result of the Olympics and Lambeth's customer services strategy.
Cabinet Member for Health and Care Services - Cllr Lorna Campbell
Councillor Campbell is responsible for services for older people, disabilities, mental health issues, people with or affected by HIV or AIDS, carers, Careline, sheltered housing support, adult residential care and working with the voluntary sector and faith groups.
Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities - Cllr Donatus Anyanwu
Councillor Anyanwu is responsible for helping Lambeth support the police fight crime and anti-social behaviour through the Safer Lambeth Partnership, tackling hate crimes including bullying and domestic violence, the Youth Offending Service , Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), fireworks, graffiti, working with the police's Safer Neighbourhood Teams, equalities, community cohesion and community engagement.
*These are the principal responsibilities of the Cabinet Members. The Leader of the Council may delegate others to them.
