north dulwich road bridge closure

NORTH DULWICH STATION ROAD BRIDGE  CLOSURE

From Cllrs Toby Eckersley, Nick Vineall and Robin Crookshank Hilton

You may have already heard that Southwark Council and Network Rail propose to close the road (Red Post Hill) over the railway for approximately 20 weeks from January 2008 for purposes of strengthening the unacceptably weak bridge over the railway at North Dulwich Station.   At the request of the Councillors, a public meeting to provide information and an opportunity for questions has been arranged, with kind permission of the Rev. Hugh Dawes , for

Monday 19th November at St Faith's Church, Red Post Hill
The meeting will start at 7.30 pm;  displays may be viewed from 6.30 pm.
Southwark officers and Network Rail officials will be in attendance from 6.30 pm.

Among topics to be dealt with at the meeting will be
-          reasons for the works
-          diversions to be proposed, including to bus routes 37 and P4.
-          consequences of the removal of the current 7.5te limit
-          design and conservation aspects
-          pedestrian and general road safety on the renovated bridge.

The works are funded by Network Rail and Transport for London .
It is our current understanding that the 37 will be diverted along Village Way   (the road surface having been lowered under the low bridge), with the P4 diverted along Half Moon Lane and Village Way .   We are also assured that throughout the works pedestrian and cycle access to the station in both directions will be maintained.  We believe there will be three weekend closures of the railway.  Details will be given at the meeting.

The ward councillors have requested that a flyer advising of the meeting be delivered to all houses with half a mile of the bridge.

Since neither this message nor the flyer may reach all those with an interest in this matter, please would recipients kindly mention the proposals and the meeting to Dulwich friends and neighbours.

We look forward to seeing some of you on the 19th.
