COMMENTS ON THE BLOG FROM PAUL KENNY
(SORRY THE REPLY COMES FIRST)
Thanks for your comments.
The blog spot is promoting the junction project adopted and developed at meetings over the last 5 years .It would not be appropriate for us promote the do nothing option having identified the problems and come up with the council a way of solving this.
We are a residents forum of people from both boroughs.
As regards funding. Lambeth pay for the room hire for our four public meetings and this is stopping after Christmas. Southwark have given us £1,000 this year again for meeting
costs. Lambeth print our posters usually and we pay for distribution. /A couple of local traders make contributions towards this.
The Forum has received no financial support for the very substantial time and admin costs in promoting the Junction project.

Hello again. I e-mailed you a few weeks ago, raising concerns re the one-sided views that regularly appear on your website, particularly in relation to the plans to improve the roads outside Brockwell Park. I notice you now have a message of support from the Mayor in regards to the scheme, yet there's no counter-argument anywhere else on your site. Don't get me wrong, I live in Herne Hill and fully support the road plans, but I just feel that local people logging on to a site called Herne Hill Forum ought to be presented with both sides of any argument when it comes to issues in their own area. I may be wildly off the mark here, but are U in fact funded by the council, and if not who is funding U? Perhaps you should put something on your Home page to clear up just who the Herne Hill Forum represents? After all, we're not living in East Germany circa 1963. Regards. Paul Kenny

Good to hear the HHF is independent and no doubt run by honest enthusiasts, which is more than can be said for the so-called “Friends” of Brockwell Park.
I can forgive you for putting across a seemingly one-sided view on the Herne Hill Junction scheme. As witnessed yesterday (Saturday 10th) at the park gates, the so called “Friends” simply misrepresent the appalling lack of road safety at the Herne Hill Junction. They make unfounded and incorrect statements to all the passers-by who are being duped into signing petitions etc.. Not only that, but any attempt to engage in intelligent discussion or email correspondence with FoBP is met with zero response.
I admit the TFL / Lambeth scheme for the Herne Hill Junction is not quite perfect but it seems to me (I have lived in the area for 35 years) to be the best way to get an improvement in safety. Safety is paramount.
FoBP will never win with their alternative plan (inasmuch as it has any clarity or consistency to be called a plan). In the meantime we all have to put up with more months of
* congestion and pollution at the junction
* anger and road rage, car horns at all times of the night
* countless dangerous illegal right hand turns
* very difficult crossing for pedestrians and danger for cyclists
* a horrible toilet block and 'rest area' in the park itself
* the knock on effect on the local traders
All because “Friends” stand in the way of progress in the name of a bit of grass. I hope one day the Friends will turn their energies back to the amenities in the park. Herne Hill is otherwise a great place to live. Brockwell is a very fine park. It deserves better.
