STREET DISORDER.
STREET DISORDER AND DISTURBANCES IN LOCAL LICENSED PREMISES IN HERNE LAST WEEKEND
Last weekend saw several police call outs to disturbances In Half Moon Lane, Railton Road and Dulwich Road. Incidents took place
and the new owners of the FLORENCE AKA Ganleys, formerly the Brockwell Park Tavern, had the good sens to close Saturday evening to allow a cooling down.
However this did not prevent a late night violent brawl starting in Half Moon Lane and ending up with windows at the prince Regent being smashed.
To night Southwark council will consider the review of the 2003 Licensing Act which came into force last year. the review covers the first 6 months only and is really premature. Lambeth are about start their review which will cover 18 months and give us a much more realistic opportunity to make qualitative judgements based on experiences over a longer period and the collective awareness that now exists about problems emanating from longer licensing hours and indeed the impacts of the smoking ban.
Herne Hill is considered in the terms of the Southwark review not requiring any saturation policy as the crime stats are low. This is not the case.
Herne Hill commercial centre and the residential roads around it and affected by late night dispersals. cross two boroughs, three wards, three Safer Neighbourhood Teams each of which is in a separate policing sub command. Brixton/ Streatham/ Dulwich. This split responsibility affects all
public services and is the principle reason that Herne Hill is in a state of commercial decay ( mostly).
