ADVANTAGE TO LOCAL BUSINESSES OF SUPPORTING MEASURES TO BRING IN MORE PEDESTRAIN AND BUS USERS RATHER THAN CAR USERS .

PEDESTRIANISED SHOPPING AREAS WITHIN THE PUBLIC REALM

A recent survey by SUSTRANS opf 840 shoppers and 126 retailers in two neighbourhood shopping streets on bus routes in Bristol has found that retailers overestimate the importance of the car and how far their customers travel.
Retailers estimate that 41% of custmers arrived by car fact only 22% had done so.#

Retailers estimated that12% of custOmers lived within half a mile and 40% over two miles
actually 42 had come less than half a mile and 88 had travelled ledd than 2 miles
