LAMBETH TO MOVE REFUSE LORRIES TO MAHATIMA GHANDI , MILKWOOD ROAD.
THERE IS ONE DOWNSIDE TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MUCH NEEDED Academy in SHakespeare Road and that is the proposal to move the refuse trucks to Mahatma Ghandi. Residents are concerned about the disruption and vehicle movements espeically early in the day 5.30am onwards when staff arrive and trucks go out.
Another minus is th 40 redundancies issued to staff at Abel and Cole. They employ over 100 people and are moving their distribution depot to Wimbledon but the packing will now be done at Andover and its the packers who will suffer most. Help is being given to remploy staff. Abel Cole are suppliers of organic fruit and vegetables to households through a home delivery scheme.
They also have a special discounted scheme for over 100 schools . Jessop school being one.
Refuse will not be handled or stored on site- waste is delivered to Smugglers Way handling station on the Thames after each round before returning to depot
