HERNE HILL A PLACE TO LIVE?
WOULD THIS PUT YOU OFF??
Just came across the following quote, dated 2007, from
the website findaproperty.com:
"The curse of SE24, an otherwise desirable London
postcode in which to rest your bones, is the mammoth
junction at its heart. Five 'A' roads, two 'B' roads
and a train station all converge at a single point to
make virtual gridlock. Busy roads from Norwood and
Tulse Hill to the south come down the hill to meet
wealthy Half Moon Lane (Dulwich), raffish Railton Road
(Brixton) and other clogged arteries."

LAMBETHBUDGETCONSULTATION
LAMBETH 08/09 BUDGET CONSULTATION ENDS 14TH SEPT
The Council has just started on its Budget Consultation for 2008/09. Details are at : http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/Services/CouncilDemocracy/Consultations/BudgetConsultation.htm
Last year 800 people responded and this gave credence to some of the difficult decisions..
We want to make sure that this year as many people as possible take part in the process and give their views so that services to vulnerable adults and carers are given the attention they deserve although people should also, of course, give their comments on all the questions asked about the full range of Council services . We are sure the Council will be pleased to have as much participation as possible in the consultation, in particular from sections of the community with which it is less successful in engaging.
What you can do :
1. Publicise the on-line survey [link below] to as many people as possible. The survey can be done by residents and by people who work but do not necessarily live in the borough so your staff and volunteers including Management Committee members can complete this as well as your users and members who live in the borough.
Please encourage people to fill in the on-line survey by publicising it through your email contacts, membership mailouts, newsletters, website etc. I
2. There is also a paper survey for which people can ring [see below]
DEADLINE FOR THE ON-LINE SURVEY [AND PRESUMABLY THE PAPER ONE] IS 14th SEPTEMBER
3. Sign up for details of the public meeting to be held in October [see email contact below]
If you are able to support users, for example by giving them access to a PC to enable them to complete the on-line application form if they don't have this, that would be helpful.

LICENSING ISSUES
LICENSING ISSUES NIGHT TIME ECONOMY
"Can you help? The Herne Hill Society is looking for
someone to assist them in dealing with licensing
issues and licensing applications in Herne Hill.
There's a lot going on at the moment; not least the
problems of cross border consultation and cooperation
between Lambeth and Southwark. This was an important
feature of a recent meeting chaired by Tessa Jowell.
However, there are also reviews of Councils' policies
on licensing; the expansion of Herne Hill's late night
economy; and an increase in the numbers of
applications to allow premises to operate late into
the night (until 5.00am).
The impact on residents and on the character of Herne
Hill makes this an important area with which there
should be more local involvement. But limited
resources make this difficult. Would you be willing
to help? If you think you might be interested, please
contact the Herne Hill Society's Vice-Chair, John
Brunton, on 020 8678 1757; or email
johndbrunton@yahoo.com."
